Project 4 ~ Wing Back Makeover

Project 4 is finally finished.  This was a project that has been waiting to be done for at least 4 years now.  I bought this wing back chair at a yard sale 4 - 5 years ago and it has sat in the garage and in the upstairs bedroom waiting patiently to get a new makeover.  Here is what it looked like when I bought it.

She is a very shapely lady with a down feather cushion and the most beautiful legs.

The chair lately has been sitting upstairs in my daughter's room/guest room, depending on whether she is living with me or not.  She's been out of the country in Peru since the beginning of the year and I wanted to surprise her and get it recovered before she came back so it would match her things.
Here it is torn down to bare bones.  From all those holes in the wood, it looks like she's been recovered several times.

I used a painter's drop cloth for my fabric. Here she is after the first couple pieces were put back on.

I worked on the chair during cold or rainy weekends and in the yard on pretty days, so it took awhile to get her done.  And then my staple gun got jammed which caused another delay, but finally ~ here is her new outfit.

I refinished her legs and with this neutral fabric, she will match my daughter's decor or mine when the room is again used as a guest room.
Did I mention how much I love those legs?

I picked the aqua color for the walls because as a guest room, I have a beach theme going on.  But when my daughter moved back home, she picked a fabric that coordinated with the walls and carpet so we wouldn't have to repaint.  Here is a little of the rest of her room.

Here is a very old wardrobe she picked out of the trash on campus and brought home to refinish.  It is only partially finished, but it has so much character.

A family cross-stitch I did years ago and several items she collected at flea markets.

I think she'll be pleased when she comes back and it will finally match her room.  Without even seeing it, she's already asked me if she can have it.  I haven't made a decision on that since I am quite fond of this lovely chair myself.  We'll see.

Here is what I spent for this project:

Chair ~ $35.00
1 drop cloth ~ $19.71
Staples ~ $6.62
Small cording for legs ~ $1.91
Total ~ $63.24

Spring at Last

I've been away from blogging for a few weeks now and have missed chatting with you all.  Although spring has taken awhile to make it's appearance here in Ohio, I've kept busy with inside projects when it's cold and outside projects, when weather permits.
This week I have finished up both an inside and outside project that I will be sharing as soon as it's sunny enough to take pictures.  Until then ~ to celebrate spring, I thought I'd share a lovely spring photo from Pinterest.

Wish this was my house, but I'd never be brave enough to  paint my house pink.
